Vasilki Skendou, Kindergarten Papagiannis Greece: "February Activities"
"Science Activities"
The children were given the
following materials: soil, salt, two identical pieces of ice, and two plastic plates
to place the ice on. First, they put soil and salt into a cup and mixed them
together. Then, they covered one piece of ice with this mixture. They placed
each piece of ice on a separate plate and put them in the sun. After observing
them, they noticed that the piece of ice covered with soil and salt melted
first.
"Technology Activities"
The children experimented
with different filters to understand how technology creates tools to solve
problems. “Which tool can hold back the sand but allow air to pass through?”
First, they tried blowing air, and then they used a small hair dryer to test
which filter could hold the mixture. The materials they used were fabric,
tulle, and mesh.
"Engineering Activities"
The children were divided into two groups. Each group drew a lake. The first group made
trees out of paper, supported them with wooden material, and placed them around
the lake to protect the crops from sandstorms. The second group built a wall
using stones and trees.
"Mathematics Activities"
The children were divided into two groups. Each group placed soil on their plate. One group blew the soil using their mouths, while the other used a hair dryer. Then, they measured how far the sand traveled using blocks. Finally, they measured the distance with a measuring tape.
