Apostolia Beka - 4th kindergarten of N.Ionia Volos Greece The way to protect sand and soil
Image
Efi Chatzilia, Kindergarten Armenochori, Greece The impetus for the activities was the continuation of our story: “Damla carefully observed the strong winds blowing around the Aral Sea. The wind lifted fine grains of sand and salt into the sky. Damla learned that these grains reached the distant mountain glaciers, darkening their snow-white surfaces and making them absorb more sunlight. That is why the glaciers were melting so quickly.” How can the transport of sand and salt be prevented in order to protect the glaciers?” Science: 1. We placed dry soil in one container and wet soil in the other. The children touch, observe and ask themselves:“Which is harder?” “What happens to the soil when water is added?” They understand that water holds the soil together. 2. The children experiment: They blow on dry sand with a straw and observe how it is carried away by the wind. Then, they blow on wet sand with a straw and observe that the water holds the sand. Engineering - Technology: The ch...

OCAK AYI STEM ÇALIŞMALARIMIZ OUR STEM ACTIVITIES IN JANUARY Hikaye öğrencilere tekrar okunuyor. The story is read to the students again. They are asked what desertification means. Pictures of deserts are shown to the students. Then, they are asked, "What comes to mind when you hear the term 'sandstorm'?" and pictures and videos are shown. After that, our STEM activity, a science activity, is conducted. For this, sand is placed in two plates. One of the plates is moistened with water. Students are asked which plate is closer to the desert.  STEM...

Vasilki Skendou, Kindergarten Papagiannis, Greece: " December Activities"

Image
"Reading the Story-Reflection" We read the third chapter of the story, which focused on industrial waste and water pollution. This was followed by a discussion, and the students illustrated the solutions they suggest for reducing water pollution. "Science and Engineering-Filter construction -Experiment" We cut a plastic bottle in half, and the students placed a coffee filter, cotton, stones, sand, and charcoal inside it in layers. Then, they poured dirty water and observed how the homemade filter trapped the debris and dirt, resulting in cleaner water. "Mathematics" First, the students measured the height of the dirty water using a ruler and recorded the number. Then, they poured the filtered water into a glass, measured its height with a ruler, and noted the value. Finally, they compared the two measurements and answered the questions: which glass contained more water and which contained less. "Art Activities" The children were divided into two...
