Vasilki Skendou, Kindergarten Papagiannis,Greece: "Activities of March"
SCIENCE
The children were divided into three
groups. The first group was given soil from the school garden, the second sand,
and the third stones. Each group placed its material on a plastic plate. Then,
the children filled a glass with the same amount of water and, before pouring
it, made predictions about which material would absorb it the fastest. After
pouring the water, they observed that the soil absorbed all of it, the sand
absorbed less, while the stones did not absorb any water at all. Finally, they
concluded that plants can grow in soil.
ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY
"THE RAIN BARREL"
The children built a simple rainwater
collection system. First, they drew a house roof on red paper and glued it onto
a house model. Then, they painted paper towel rolls gray to use them as
gutters, and used a cut plastic bottle to create the barrel. Using a watering
can, the children poured water onto the roof and observed how it flowed through
the gutters and was collected in the barrel.
MATHEMATICS
"ADD DROPS IN THE SEA"
The children drew, colored, and cut out
two seas, as well as many water drops. The game was played by two players. Each
child had one sea in front of them and the same number of drops as their
partner. Taking turns, each player rolled the die and placed on their sea as
many drops as the number shown. The winner was the player who managed to place
all their drops on the sea first.
